About PRV:

Project Rogue Valley is JCLAC’s action agenda. It was established in early 2011, when two groups of Rogue Valley residents who seemed very different discovered that their outlooks on the best path to a healthy, prosperous future were very much the same.

One was the people who had been most active in establishing JCLAC (see About JCLAC). The other was a small group that had supported Jeff Golden’s 2010 campaign for Jackson County Commissioner, which was based entirely on practical ways to strengthen the local economy, enhance the Valley’s food security, and adopt practices that would make our community healthier and more self-reliant. These two groups began to meet regularly in February. It soon became obvious that in these difficult times, the things that pulled them together – a fierce loyalty to our valley, and a commitment to practical solutions that will help it thrive – are more powerful and urgent than the opinions that divide them.

They identified a list of priority issues to work on, and Project Rogue Valley was born. The original JCLAC bylaws were revised to reflect the shared goals and purpose of this ground-breaking collaboration of different-thinking people. The proposed bylaws were circulated widely among interested citizens as part of an invitation to the first public meeting of the newly-constituted JCLAC in early May. The agenda of that meeting includes approval of the new bylaws, an opportunity to become a member of JCLAC and the election of an interim JCLAC Steering Committee (serving until January, 2012) to supervise PRV.

PRV will make a powerful difference in the Rogue Valley’s future if it rallies sufficient support from dedicated to building a sturdy, self-reliant community. If you share that goal, we invite you to become a member of JCLAC today.
