Local food leaders

June 27, 2011 | Filed under Blog, Events

Sunday afternoon, June 26, some of the PRV Steering Committee had a small meeting with a few of the people who have been advancing the local food movement.  We learned a fair bit about some of the challenges and bottlenecks that need attention if the Rogue Valley is to become the dynamic food producing region that it can be.  We’ll have more to tell you soon, and we want YOUR ideas about where to focus our energy to support local agriculture and enhance the locally-grown food supply.

Hi, let me begin by thanking you for all the work you are doing to support our local economy. My name is Tom Marks and I am the founder of the Ashland based, Organic Produce Warehouse. We believe that the most important thing any one of us can do for our future is to buy local. The second most important thing is to buy our imports ( roughly 90+% of our current purchases) through direct “Food Paths”. So many of our imports are taking wild and crooked paths and we can save a tremendous amount of fuel and emissions by buying in direct “Food Paths”. Please feel free to contact me so we can discuss this further….thanks again for everything!!
